High School Admissions FAQ

How many admissions applications does Chaminade receive?
Chaminade receives about twice as many applications as there are openings in the 9th grade each year. In the high school admissions process, we realize that students are often applying to more than one school, so we follow a college admissions model, accepting more applicants than there are openings. If an applicant meets the profile of a Chaminade student, we would love to invite that student to join the Chaminade family!

What is the profile of a Chaminade student?
Chaminade seeks students who:
  • are intellectually curious and maintain good grades
  • are hard workers, have good study habits and are capable of succeeding in a college preparatory curriculum
  • accept the invitation to grow spiritually in their faith formation
  • are active in their school, church, and community
  • are ambitious, motivated and participate in extracurricular activities

Does Chaminade require an entrance exam?
For the 2024-2025 school year, Chaminade is not requiring students to take an entrance exam.  If you have taken an exam elsewhere, we will accept those scores as a supplement to the application process.  You may submit those scores to the school via email.   We do require all of our students to take the Character Skills Snapshot as part of our interview process.  Information about the Character Skills Snapshot is available in the application process.

Are late applications considered?
Late applications are considered on a space available basis, after those submitted by the application deadline.  Late applicants may also be less likely to be able to get first-choice electives in the scheduling process.  Financial Aid may still be available to late applicants, depending on the date of application and the applicant’s circumstances.

What is the annual tuition?
The tuition and fees for the 2023-2024 school year are:
  • Tuition – $23,280
  • EdTech fee – $385
  • Enrollment fee – $550
Chaminade does it’s best to keep the cost of attendance affordable.  Normally, annual tuition and fees at Chaminade increase about 4% per year – below the national average of 6% annually.

Does Chaminade offer financial aid?
Chaminade offers financial aid to families that might not otherwise afford a Chaminade education, as well as families that are experiencing temporary financial difficulties. During the 2023-2024 year, we granted tuition assistance of approximately $5,000,000.  Nearly 25% of the Chaminade community benefit from some amount of tuition assistance.

How and when do we receive admissions decisions?
Admissions decisions are sent by email, and followed up by mail with an admissions packet. Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles are all required to render admissions decisions on the same date each year.  Admissions decisions for 2024/2025 will be sent on Friday, March 1, 2024.

Do you consider international students?
We accept applications from international applicants applying for grades 6 - 11. Students from China must contact our Assistant Director of Admissions for International Programs to make application at bbeisswanger@chaminade.org. Students from all other countries may apply through the regular admissions process.  International students must have attended a school where instruction is entirely in English in ALL subjects for at least one year, must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and have satisfactory conduct in order to be considered for admission to Chaminade.
