General Information

  • First Day of School

    The first day of school is Wednesday, August 14, 2024. Students must be in full uniform. School begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 3:00 p.m. More information about the first day-of-school schedule will be provided to students at their orientation events. Parents will receive an email communication.
  • Class Schedules

    Class schedules will be released mid-July. The online bookstore will open after schedules are released. Please do not try and order books before you receive your schedule.

  • Tablet Computers

    • Tablet computers will be distributed to new 7th and 8th-grade students during orientation on Monday, August 12, 2024.
    • New 6th-grade students will receive their tablets at their New Student Orientation on Tuesday, August 13, 2024.
  • Lockers

    • New 6th-grade students will receive locker assignments and combinations at their orientation on Tuesday, August 13, 2024.

      • 6th grade students may set up their locker on Tuesday, August 13, after school and the rest of the week before and after school.

    • New 7th and 8th-grade students will receive locker assignments and combinations at their orientation on Monday, August 12, 2024.

      • They may set up their locker after school on Monday, August 12, and the rest of the week before and after school.
  • Lunch Service

    Chaminade and The Caterer, Inc. offer meal service for all of our students. For more information please visit our Lunch Service page.
  • Campus Ministry

    Due to the specifics of our program, we ask that NEW students to Chaminade do NOT begin their Apostolic Work hours until the school year starts in August.  Before new students accumulate their hours, we help them learn the program's specifics, how to track hours, and what to know about the program’s expectations and regulations.

    Save the date!  Retreats will take place on campus for all grade levels: 
    • 6th-grade retreat: Imago Dei | September 17/18, 2024
    • 7th-Grade retreat: I Choose Courage | March 12/13, 2025
    • 8th-Grade retreat: Journey | May 13, 2025

    Families interested in having their child receive the Sacraments of Initiation in the Catholic Church should contact Jackie Rodriguez at jrodriguez@chaminade.org. This program is for any child who wants to be baptized and receive their First Communion. Children will receive formation during x-block and attend gatherings in partnership with a local parish.
  • Extracurricular

    C-Notes
    Are you ready to watch your child's talents soar? Give them the gift of music and community by encouraging them to sign up for the C-Notes Middle School Choir with Mrs. Hoffman! This concert choir is open to all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. NO AUDITION NECESSARY!

    C-Notes will have the following opportunities throughout the school year: A winter & spring concert, a Disneyland Festival trip, and a Universal and California Adventure Festival trip. Don't miss out on this incredible opportunity for your child to discover their voice and passion for music. C-Notes practice Mondays and Wednesdays each week from 3:15-4:30 p.m.

    Dance
    Audition for the Eagle Dance Team!
    Calling all 6th, 7th, or 8th-grade boys or girls with intermediate to advanced dance experience to audition for the team.
     
    Learn the routine:
    Tuesday, August 20, 2024, 3:15-5:00 p.m., in the Gym, and,
    Thursday, August 22, 2024, 3:15-5:00 p.m., in the Gym
     
    Auditions:
    Friday, August 23, 2024, 3:15 p.m., in the Gym
     
    The Eagle Dance team practices and performs from August through May. Rehearsal times are Wednesday mornings from 7:30 a.m. - 8:15 a.m. in the Gym.
     
    Eagle Dance Team performs at the middle school Pep Rally for Homecoming and Catholic Schools Week, Open House, Liturgies, the Fine Arts Awards Assembly, and various school events throughout the year.
     
    Audition packets will be available in Ms. Eaton’s office and in the fall CTW. Contact Coach Eaton at heaton@chaminade.org with any additional questions.

    Drama
    Auditions for the Fall Drama Production will be announced after the semester begins. Before auditions, an information meeting will be held to share essential details regarding audition requirements, dates, and times. A final cast list is typically posted a few days after the final audition day. Keep an ear open and an eye out for any announcements that will go out in the CTW!
    Performances are scheduled for November.

    Band
    Join Chaminade Middle School Bands & Orchestras! This opportunity is open to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade boys and girls who wish to learn and perform all genres of instrumental music. Concert Band performs at festivals and goes on field trips. Click here to watch an informational video. Concert Band begins on Monday, August 19. 2024.
     
    Choose a band ensemble as your exploratory opportunity. Band exploratory during school classes are Concert BandJazz BandOrchestra, and Percussion Ensemble. Opportunities are available for all skill levels.

    Athletics
    Information on Tryouts (dates/times) and startup practices will be updated during the summer and posted on the Middle School Athletic Webpage.
     
    Tackle Football practices begin in early August – schedule to be posted online. All other sports tryouts and practices begin after school starts.

    Cheerleading
    Tryouts for the 6th-grade team and for new 7th and 8th graders who missed spring tryouts are August 19-21, 2024.

    Members of the cheer team are ineligible to play fall and winter sports but can participate in the spring sports offerings.

  • Transportation

    Chaminade offers bus services to both the middle and the high school campuses. We also provide intercampus buses that allow families to travel to the school closest to them. Registration will open at the end of April or early May – keep an eye out for an email with those details.

    We offer buses from the East San Fernando Valley area, with stops along Ventura Boulevard; from the Conejo Valley, with stops along the 23 and 101 Freeways; and buses from the Santa Clarita Valley (Valencia), as well as West LA and Sylmar.

    The bus schedule for the upcoming school year will be emailed to all registered families before the start of school. Schedules will be published in your parent portal. Pricing, routes, stops, FAQ page, and the link to register can be found on the transportation page.

  • Boosters

    The Boosters Store is open all summer for you to purchase spirit wear and hooded sweatshirts. The hooded sweatshirts are a part of the school uniform. Here is the link to check it out!

    Summer Boosters hours are on Wednesdays from 12:00-1:00 p.m. on the middle school campus.
     
  • School Supplies

    This year's middle school supplies list for all grades has been updated to reflect a move towards students working within a cloud-based environment, which includes Google Apps integration with Schoology, digital submissions through Schoology, school-wide subscriptions to digital tools.

    This move will reduce the need for paper hence the reduction of items to be carried in backpacks or stored in lockers.

  • Textbooks

    Chaminade uses MBS Direct as the official online bookstore for purchasing or renting all course textbooks, including summer reading books. Schedules are released in mid-July. 

    Most courses REQUIRE a one-year online digital textbook for use at school. In addition to the one-year online digital textbook, you may purchase OPTIONAL hard copies for those who want print versions at home. Please read the instructor's notes at the top of each course to see what is required for each course. 
    Families must create an account before purchasing or renting textbooks. Returning families should use existing login information for siblings. 
     
    Textbooks areavailable for purchase or renting online through MBS Direct Online. Using your schedule, you can navigate through the online bookstore to select your textbooks. If you need help please, refer to this tutorial on how to order books. You will need the following code to access the booklist (see Step 3 in the tutorial link): eagle24

  • Uniforms

    The following items of uniform are the only acceptable uniform options that may be worn:
     
    • Dennis Uniforms (pants/skorts/shorts/ shirts/PE shirts & shorts) 
    • Dennis Uniforms (navy sweaters, navy sweatshirts, and navy sweatpants) 
    • Chaminade navy polo shirts and navy sweatshirts for Chaminade athletic teams or extracurricular activities are also permitted.

  • New Student Orientations

    Incoming 6th-grade students & parent(s)
    Tuesday, August 13, 2024, 8:30 a.m.-12:35 p.m.

    Students must come dressed in full uniform, ready for their first day as new Chaminade students. Students will have an opportunity to get connected, meet teachers and classmates, and learn about some important school-related topics.

    Incoming 7th and 8th grade students & parent(s)
    Monday, August 12, 2024, 8:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m.

    Students must come dressed in full uniform, ready for their first day as Chaminade students. Students will be introduced to technology programs, meet classmates and teachers, and learn general information that will help make their transition easier.
    At a minimum, we ask that one parent plan to attend the orientations with their child, as this event has a parent component. 

    More information will come in June/July regarding what students and parents can expect from these events. Stay tuned!

    We know the beginning of the school year is both exciting and challenging. Please join us for our Virtual New Family Information Night to help ease your transition and make it as seamless as possible.

    At this event, you will learn how to support your child in how to:

    • Upload Apostolic Works hours into Naviance
    • Access school information and navigate Schoology, our learning management system
    • Utilize the counseling service and get tips and strategies to help with a smooth middle school transition
    • Navigate the athletic program regarding tryout processes, online registration for sports, and program philosophy
    • Get involved in leadership opportunities and student activities, such as clubs and the House System
