High School Admissions FAQ

How many admissions applications do you receive?
Each year we receive double the applications for the number of applicant openings in the 9th grade. In the high school admissions process, we realize that students are applying to more than one school, so we follow a college admissions model, accepting more applicants than there are openings. If an applicant meets the profile of a Chaminade student, we would love to invite that student to join the Chaminade family!

What is the profile of a Chaminade student?
Chaminade seeks students who:
• are intellectually curious and maintain good grades
• are hard workers, have good study habits and are capable of succeeding in a college preparatory curriculum
• accept the invitation to grow spiritually in their faith formation
• are active in their school, church, and community
• are ambitious, motivated and participate in extracurricular activities

What entrance exam do you use?
Chaminade administers its own proprietary entrance exam. The exam has 5 sections: 1) Verbal reasoning, 2) Reading comprehension, 3) Mathematics, 4) Algebra and 5) a Critical thinking and writing section. 9th grade applicants must take the Chaminade Entrance Exam to be considered for admission. No other exams will be accepted in lieu of the Chaminade exam. Chaminade offers entrance exam prep classes in early January, before the entrance exam dates.

Are late applications considered?

Late applications will be considered on a space available basis after those submitted by the application deadline.

What is the annual tuition?
The tuition and fees for the 2019-2020 school year are:
• Tuition - $17,875 tuition
• Ed-Tech fee - $814
• Enrollment fee - $800
Normally, annual tuition and fees increase between 4-5% annually.

Do you offer financial aid?
Chaminade offers financial aid to families that might not otherwise afford a Chaminade education, as well as families that are experiencing temporary financial difficulties. During the 2018-2019 year, we granted tuition assistance of approximately $3,750,000 to more than 450 students (22% of our student body).

How do we receive admissions decisions?
Admissions decisions are sent by mail and by email. Admissions decisions letters will be mailed in the morning and emails will be sent at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 6, 2020.

Do you consider international students?
We accept applications from international applicants applying for grades 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 or 11. Students from China must contact our International Program Director to make application. Students from all other countries must have attended a school where instruction is entirely in English in ALL subjects for at least one year, must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and satisfactory conduct, in order to be considered for admission to Chaminade.
