The first-ever Alumni Speaker Series kicked off with Dana Michelle Cook ’97 on Wednesday, January 13th. Our Director of Development and Alumni Engagement, Danny Kramer, interviewed Dana as she spoke about the importance that her Chaminade education has had on her professional career. Dana spoke about how the academic rigor that she experienced in high school prepared her for a fast-paced career as a producer and documentary filmmaker.

Dana is an Emmy and Gracie award-winning producer and documentary filmmaker, dedicated to shining light on issues that bring about social change. As co-creator and producer of the documentary: The Empowerment Project: Ordinary Women Doing Extraordinary Things, she has inspired tens of thousands of young women to find their voice and become leaders of their lives. During two national tours, Dana has sparked conversations at schools and women’s organizations and corporations. She has been featured on Good Morning America, Forbes, and Marie Claire. The film has gone on to screen globally in more than 20 countries.

She currently serves as Co-Founder of Freeheart Creative and Director of the documentary series, Seeing Brave, created to highlight and showcase global female leaders mobilizing communities in Kenya, Rwanda, Haiti, Syria, and beyond.

Dana has created original content for major networks including ABC, NBC, Food Network, HGTV, The Obama Foundation, and Quibi. Last year, Dana produced for Oprah’s 2020 Vision Tour, traveling to 10 cities across the US.

Alumni, parents, and students in attendance enjoyed listening to Dana as she led them through her journey. Dana is truly a Soaring Eagle!
