Counselors in Training

Are you a Chaminade student looking to make a difference in the lives of young minds this summer? Join us this summer for a unique opportunity that blends community service, skill development, and leadership training.

Requirements

  • Junior Counselors must be entering grade 8
  • Counselors in Training must be entering grades 9-12.  
  • All Jr. Counselors and Counselors In Training must also be enrolled for the Fall 2026 term at Chaminade.

Training Sessions (MANDATORY)

Please note that there are NO MAKE-UP training sessions

Junior CITs (Entering Grade 8)
Must attend orientation on the Chatsworth campus where service will be done. 

Returning New CITs, CITs and Experienced Counselors (Grades 9-12):

  • Must attend orientation on the campus where service will be done.

West Hills Campus: 

  • Saturday, May 16          9:00 am – 11:00 am
  • Tuesday, June 9          12:00pm – 2:00 pm

Chatsworth Campus: 

  • Saturday, May 16          11:00 am – 1:00 pm
  • Tuesday, June 9          9:00 am – 11:00 am

Volunteer Session

  • Counselors and CITs in the Academy programs will commit to working a minimum of one complete session.
  • Sessions are weekly from June 15– July 24, 7:30 a.m. –  3:30 p.m. (CIT will be able to sign up for at least one week once accepted)
  • The head coach must approve counselors working with Sports Camps. CITs must agree to work the hours outlined by the coaching staff. Coaches will be responsible for scheduling their players as counselors. Students may not elect to be counselors at Varsity Sports Camps without coach approval.  
  • Counselors in special programs (dance, aerial, musical theater, film, Vex Robotics, Mock Trial) must also have the approval of their respective program directors to work in these camps.
  • Students volunteering in special programs may also volunteer in Academy programs to fulfill the requirements for service if their programs are only half day.

Summer Academy Counselors

  • New Summer Academy Jr. Counselors, CITs, and Counselors may be required to complete an interview during the selection process. Once the application is complete, if an interview is necessary, Mrs. Cowgill will contact you to arrange an interview time.
  • Summer Academy counselors assist students in grades K-8 at the West Hills and Chatsworth Campuses.
  • Counselors assist with check-in and check-out daily, supervise campers during snack time and lunch, assist teachers in classrooms, and help wherever help is needed.  
  • Each counselor will work with their assigned adult supervisor during training to develop and teach a series of lessons and create during the classes to which they are assigned.
  • The counseling team will plan and execute morning team-building activities for younger campers each day of the week.
