Middle School Admissions FAQ

What schools do Chaminade Middle School students come from?
Our 6th grade class is comprised of students from over 60 different partner schools. Students come from both private and public schools and travel from distances near and far to attend Chaminade.

How many spaces are available in the 6th, 7th and 8th grade?
6th and 9th grade are our largest entry points. In the 6th grade, we typically welcome about 200 new students each year. In 7th grade, we enlarge the class about 30 students. In 8th grade, we typically enroll about 10-15 new 8th grade students.

What qualifies my child to attend Chaminade?
We look at a wide array of measures in determining whether a student is qualified and prepared to attend Chaminade. We look at each child’s grades, standardized test scores, and results from the SSAT, if they choose to take it. We also take into consideration the information from the student interview, report card comments, and recommendation forms. We are looking for a good student who is also a good citizen.

What entrance exam do you use?
For the 2021-2020 school year, Chaminade has decided to move to a test optional policy. For those applicants who would like us to know more about their academic potential, please send your ISEE and/or SSAT results.

Are my child’s chances of admission lessened by not taking the SSAT?
We have purposely moved to a test optional policy to create a more equitable process for all applicants and help to make this process easier on families. There will be no penalty if your child chooses not to participate in this aspect of the process. However, if you feel the test will give us a clearer sense of your child’s academic capability and it does not cause undue stress on your family, you can make the determination to register.

When is the application due? Do you consider late applications?
The application to be considered for the 2021-2022 school year is due by January 8, 2021. Late applications are considered on a space available basis. Please call the Admissions Office for more information about our application deadline.

When and how will we be notified of the decision?
Acceptance letters go out on March 5, 2021. Students will receive an acceptance packet in the ensuing days. An email will be sent out for all accepted students on Saturday, March 6, 2021, with a video welcoming them to the Chaminade Family!

What will it cost to send my child to Chaminade? Are there additional fees beyond tuition?
The tuition for the 2020-2021 school year is $18,795. All families will have additional fees for purchasing uniforms, textbooks and field trips. Other fees are optional and depend on additional activities a child chooses.

Do you offer financial aid?
Chaminade is committed to providing need-based financial aid. Assistance is awarded based on need and available financial funds. For more information, please visit the “Affording Chaminade” page.
