Dear Chaminade Family,
We pray that you had a wonderful and blessed Christmas. As we approach the new semester, we are writing to share with you some important updates for a safe return to campus on January 6, 2022.
As shared in recent news, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) announced that the Omicron variant of COVID-19 is now the dominant strain in the U.S., and the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (DPH) stated that a fourth wave of COVID-19 infections is surging, spurred by holiday gatherings and travel.
To safeguard the health and safety of our community, Chaminade will require that all students and employees show proof of a negative test result upon arrival to campus on Thursday, January 6, regardless of one’s vaccination status. Each campus will communicate the details on how to show proof of a negative test result by the end of this week.
Testing Options for January 3 – January 5, 2022, and Proof of Test Results
Testing is required for all students and employees, regardless of vaccination status. All tests are to be completed by Wednesday, January 5 but no earlier than Monday, January 3.
Here are the acceptable options for COVID-19 testing:
- Heluna Health will offer their free rapid antigen testing at Chaminade on Monday, January 3, 2022 (middle school), and Tuesday, January 4, 2022 (high school) at 8:00 am – 4:00 pm. No appointment is necessary to use our on-campus testing program. Students may choose to be tested on either campus, whichever is most convenient for them by letting a health care representative know which campus they attend.
If not already done so, you can register and create a profile for your student in the “Primary Health” platform to allow testing on campus using this link. Student test results will be sent to the email and phone number provided during registration.
- If you prefer to make arrangements to test your student at a health clinic or use an at-home testing kit, you may do so provided the test is conducted on or after Monday, January 3, 2022, and results are available prior to your student’s return to campus.
Chaminade will accept the following forms as proof of a negative test result: a printed copy, email, photo, or screenshot. Please send test results to either MSTesting@chaminade.org (for middle school students) or HSTesting@chaminade.org (for high school students). Make sure to keep a copy for your records and for proof upon arrival to campus on January 6.
- If your student is not able to test, they will not be able to come to school and will have to participate virtually from home for up to one week to allow additional time to be tested and submit a negative test result.
If your student tests positive and/or has symptoms consistent with COVID-19, please do not send them to school and have them follow the “Instructions for Isolation for People with COVID-19”
as required by DPH. As of this writing, DPH has not adopted CDC’s shorter isolation and quarantine guidelines, which were published on December 27, 2021. To notify your campus of a positive test result and access virtual instruction, please send test results to either MSTesting@chaminade.org
(for middle school students) or HSTesting@chaminade.org
(for high school students). In the email subject line, please state “Positive Test Result”.
Continuing our Weekly Heluna Testing Program on Campus beginning January 10, 2022
As we begin this new semester, we want to reiterate the importance of our weekly testing program. Since the implementation of our testing program in late November 2021, Heluna Health medical professionals have been able to test our students successfully. However, we noticed that some of our students required to test were not showing up or were absent or test results were not submitted if testing occurred off-campus.
Beginning on January 10, we will continue our Heluna Health weekly free rapid antigen testing program. As stated in the November 23, 2021 communication, with this new testing program, only unvaccinated students will be required to test each week – either on campus or at a health clinic or at-home testing kit. Vaccinated students may also elect to be tested on campus.
Please note that if students miss their opportunity to either test on campus or do not provide a test result from an outside health clinic, or an at-home testing kit and do not submit a negative test result by Wednesday at 3:00 pm, those students will not be able to attend school. There will be a grace period allowance of up to one week during which a student will be permitted to participate virtually from home to allow additional time to get tested and provide Chaminade with a negative test result. Testing is a key mitigation strategy to protect the health of all individuals on our campuses and prevent a campus outbreak which could threaten our ability to hold in-person instruction. Chaminade cannot achieve this goal alone. Keeping our community safe is a group effort and we are very grateful for your understanding and cooperation.
All students, regardless of their vaccination status, may be subject to testing for certain activities, such as trips to off-campus venues for retreats, field trips, and other overnight trips, as well as athletic and other competitions.
