Before the start of Thanksgiving Break, we are writing to provide an update on the latest vaccination news, outdoor masking protocol, and our revised COVID-19 testing program.
As we communicated on October 7, 2021, the Governor of California announced that COVID-19 vaccinations will be required for all students ages 12 and older following the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) full approval of the vaccine for that age group. As of today, the FDA has not issued this approval, and the California State Department of Public Health has not yet issued guidance on the mandate defining this requirement, including when and how it will be implemented, and the allowable exemptions. Once this guidance becomes available, we will determine Chaminade’s path forward and share those details with you.
We continue to monitor the vaccination status of the Chaminade community. Here are the latest statistics as of today:
- Faculty, staff, and administration – 96% (across both campuses)
- Chatsworth students – 54%
- West Hills students – 75%
As a reminder, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (DPH) has stated that fully vaccinated students who are asymptomatic do not have to quarantine if they are identified as a close contact of an infected person. If your student has recently been fully vaccinated and we have not yet received a copy of their vaccination card, please click here to upload it to the “Enrollment Checklist.” If you need help obtaining a copy of your student’s vaccination card, or to see what forms of vaccination proof are acceptable, click here.
DPH strongly recommends schools continue to enforce outdoor masking, especially when social distancing cannot occur due to crowding. Chaminade’s leadership, in consultation with its compliance team, acknowledges the difficulty in maintaining social distancing outside and believes continued outdoor masking is a strong mitigation measure against transmission on campus. This is particularly important with many families traveling and gathering during the Thanksgiving and Christmas Breaks. The outdoor masking protocol will be reevaluated in January 2022.
Revised COVID-19 Testing Program
Beginning Monday, November 29, 2021, Chaminade will partner with DPH and Heluna Health to provide free rapid antigen testing. The advantages of this testing program include: 1) results are available within 15 minutes, allowing us to quickly identify students who are infected, notify their families, and send them home to prevent transmission on campus; 2) increased testing capacity; and 3) families do not need to provide personal insurance or pay for testing.
With this new testing program, only unvaccinated students will be required to test each week – either on campus or at a health clinic. Vaccinated students may also elect to be tested on campus.
- To test on campus, register and create a profile for your student in the “Primary Health” platform using this link. Student test results will be sent to the email and phone number provided during registration. If you encounter technical difficulties while registering, please contact “Primary Health” at (562) 222-7795.
- If you prefer to make arrangements for weekly testing at a health clinic – home tests are not acceptable – please send your student’s test results to either MSTesting@chaminade.org (for middle school students) or HSTesting@chaminade.org (for high school students). Results must be received each week by Wednesday at 3:00 pm.
All students, regardless of their vaccination status, may be subject to testing for certain activities, such as trips to off-campus venues for retreats, field trips, and other overnight trips, as well as athletic and other competitions. Please click here for more information from DPH regarding the importance of testing programs for schools.
We are thankful for your continued support and pray that you have a blessed Thanksgiving Break.
