Online Instruction Guidelines for Students

List of 4 items.

  • Structure

    • All classes in your schedule – with some exceptions for PE or Fine Arts Performance Groups – will continue with instruction. Check your class Blackboard site for details about any particular course and send questions directly to your teacher.
    • Classes will begin to post new work on Tuesday, 3/17. Classes will generally take on a “week by week” structure – there will be assignments as activities that are grouped together for the week. Generally, there will be only one “due date” per class per week.
    • Beginning on Monday, 3/23, You will have up to 90 minutes per week of mandatory live instruction per subject, and there will still be a live X-Block for you to get more live contact with your teacher if you need it. REMEMBER – teachers are also going to still be available to you via email, and in some classes via discussion boards and blogs. DON’T LIMIT YOURSELF TO ONLY THINKING ABOUT A CLASS WHEN YOU HAVE A LIVE SESSION – that won’t work.
    • Outside of live sessions, teachers will try to be quickly responsive to emails – remember that teachers still have other things happening in their lives too, so don’t expect an immediate response at all hours of the day and night.
    • We will structure the day into AM and PM sessions. Most of you will only have two sessions per day. If you are an upperclassmen who doubled up on a core, you may have more than two sessions in a day, but then you will have less on a different day.
    • Live Sessions look like this:
      • AM Sessions run 8:00 AM – 11:00 AM
        • AM 1 = 8:00 – 9:30
        • AM 2 = 9:30 – 11:00
      • PM Sessions run 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM
        • PM 1 = 12:00 – 1:30
        • PM 2 = 1:30 – 3:00
  • New Day Rotation/Calendar Structure

    • Beginning on Monday, 3/23, we will be moving to an online school calendar with new day rotations that help organize the live sessions.
    • Live Sessions are considered mandatory for students. They are your best chance to get questions answered and to interact with your classmates.
    • The school calendar will be updated to reflect the new rotations, so you will know when to be logged in and with what teacher.
    • We will be using the following schedule for Live Sessions – remember that there are other expectations for your classes – these are simply to provide structure to connecting live with teachers:
      • A Day:                   Religion AM/Science PM
      • B Day:                   Elective “A” AM/English PM
      • C Day:                   Elective “B” AM/Math PM
      • D Day:                   Fac Mtng AM/Soc. Study PM
      • E Day:                    World Lang AM/X Block PM
    • LIVE SESSIONS WILL BEGIN ON MONDAY 3/23 with our first “A” Day
  • Due Dates

    • Things can be due, and teachers can “collect” things during live sessions.
    • If anything is going to be due outside of a Live Session, they will be due once per week at 11:59 PM two nights before your scheduled Live Session.
      • As always, you can choose to turn things in any time up until the due date.
      • Doing all assignments and turning everything in is more important than ever!
    • Due Date Structure:
      • A Day: Religion AM/Science PM - C Day Work Due
      • B Day:  Elective “A” AM/English PM - D Day Work Due
      • C Day:  Elective “B” AM/Math PM - E Day Work Due
      • D Day: Fac Mtng AM/Soc. Study PM - A Day Work Due
      • E Day: World Lang AM/X Block PM - B Day Work Due
As online students now, you need to:
    • Be a self-starter – displaying the maturity and motivation to work independently.
    • Use time wisely.
    • Be more organized than you have ever been before.
    • Actively participate in online class activities, assignments, and Live Sessions.
    • Check communication frequently – email, Blackboard, discussion boards, blogs, etc.
    • Get all assignments done and turned in ON TIME
    • Immediately reach out to teachers when you have a question or concern.
REMEMBER – this is not forever! We will all be back at school and need to make the most of this “bridge” to keep your learning complete and your school experience on track!

The faculty and staff at Chaminade High School are working hard to try to get back into an academic rhythm. We are all in this together as we try to do our part to stay safe, protect the community, and also keep your academic life moving forward. Teachers will be working to create a meaningful learning experience for you all, and we hope you will do your part to make it work. That will mean a new independent approach to your learning, potentially some new definitions of work and grades, and most of all a real effort on your part to make sure that when we come back to our regular classrooms, you are ready to meet that transition, whether it is in a few days or a few weeks.
