The application must be completed and submitted by Monday February 27, 2023 at 4:00 pm.
To register and complete the online portion of the application, log on to your existing Campbrain account or if you do not already have one, you will need to create an account. You will then complete the registration process by adding the appropriate CIT/CIT Jr level to your cart. A brief application must be completed and the fees for training must be paid to complete the application. Please note that this is an application process as stated above, students will be notified of their acceptance into the program. If a student is not accepted into the program the fees paid will be refunded to the original source of payment.
Junior Counselors and Counselors in Leadership Training
This program trains Chaminade students to work with youth in the Center for Excellence summer programs while earning valuable community service credit. To earn Chaminade community service credit, students must complete both the training session and at least one full week of volunteering. The mandatory training period will include sessions covering child development, leadership and team-building, supervision of children, and guidance to develop activities and lessons during the daily counselor led time each day of the summer programs. Upon successful completion of training, each Jr. Counselor or Counselor will spend a minimum of one session volunteering under the direct supervision of a teacher and the summer programs site director.
Requirements:
Junior Counselors must be entering grade 8 and Counselors in Training (CITs) must be entering grade 9-12. All Jr. Counselors and Counselors In Training must also be enrolled for the Fall 2023 term at Chaminade College Preparatory.
Training Sessions:
Training sessions are MANDATORY. Please note that there are NO MAKE-UP training sessions.
Junior CITs (Entering Grade 8):Must attend orientation on the campus where service will be done.

Volunteer session:
Counselors and CITs in the Academy programs will commit to working a minimum of one full session.
Sessions are weekly from June 12 – July 21 from 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. (CIT will be able to sign up for at least one week once accepted)
Counselors working with Sports Camps will need to have to be approved by the head coach and agree to work the hours outlined by the coaching staff. Coaches will be responsible for scheduling their players as counselors. Students may not elect to be counselors at Varsity Sports Camps without coach approval. Counselors in special programs (dance, aerial, musical theater, film, Vex Robotics, Mock Trial) must also have the approval of their respective program directors to work in these camps. Students volunteering in these special programs may also volunteer in Academy programs to fulfill the requirements for service if their programs are only 1/2 day.
Summer Academy Counselors:
New Summer Academy Jr. Counselors, CITs, and Counselors may be required to complete an interview as part of the selection process. Once your application is complete, if an interview is necessary, Mrs. Cowgill will contact you to arrange for an interview time. Summer Academy counselors assist with students in grades K-8 at both the West Hills and Chatsworth Campuses. Counselors assist with check-in and check-out daily, supervise campers during snack time and lunch, assist teachers in classrooms, and help wherever help is needed. In addition, each Counselor will work with their assigned adult supervisor during training to develop and teach a series of lessons and create during the classes in which they are assigned. Furthermore, the counseling team will plan and execute morning teambuilding activities each day of the week for younger campers.
Middle School Junior CITs:
- CIT participants will still be selected from a pool of rising 8th-grade applicants, and the 8th graders will now be referred to as Junior CITs.
- Junior CITs will only volunteer on the Chatsworth campus, not in West Hills.
- Junior CITs will be required to volunteer for one full-week of programming and attend training (approximately 45 hours).
- There will be a modest fee associated with the Junior CIT program to cover costs included in training, certification (CPR and other expenses (approximately $75).
- Junior CITs will be required to purchase a CIT uniform shirt (approximately $30) to wear EVERYDAY they volunteer. Once accepted, CIT will receive information about ordering shirt.
- Junior CITs will earn 10 hours of service towards their Apostolic Works requirement. You must submit the required summer form to Campus Ministry.
- Junior CITs will NOT participate in a discernment process, write an action plan, or submit a reflection as part of the program.
- Junior CITs will submit a form to summer site directors for verification of service once they have completed their week(s) of volunteering.
- Junior CITs will work under a high school counselor and be responsible for campers in classes and camps offered through the Center for Excellence.
High School CITs and COUNSELORS:
- CIT program participants will be selected from continuing Chaminade students in good standing.
- The number of CITs and counselors will be limited. Application to the CIT Program is competitive and will be based upon the strength of application and interview.
- First and second-year volunteers will be referred to as CITs.
- CITs will be required to purchase a CIT uniform shirt (approximately $30) to wear EVERYDAY they volunteer. The shirt is the same as last summer, so you can use last year's shirt if it is still in good condition. Once accepted, CIT will receive information about ordering shirt.
- First-year CITs will attend training for CPR certification and orientation in child development, activity planning, and discernment.
- Second-year CITs will require a recommendation from the site director or assistant director for consideration and approval.
- Second-year CITs will attend training for First Aid Certification, activity planning, and discernment.
- CITs will pay a modest fee for training, certification, and other expenses (approximately $75).
- CITs will earn the full number of hours required for their full year of apostolic works with verification of one full week of service, the day of service participation, appropriate discernment, submitted and approved action plans, and submitted and approved reflections.
- Entering 9th grade - 12th grade can serve hours at either campus - West Hills or Chatsworth.
EXPERIENCED HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELORS:
- Students who have successfully completed two years of training and service will be referred to as COUNSELORS.
- COUNSELORS will attend training in leadership, activity planning, and discernment.
- COUNSELORS will pay a small fee for training and other expenses (approximately $30).
- COUNSELORS will be responsible for their CITs and/or Junior CITs AND the students they are assigned to supervise and assist in camps and classes for a minimum of one FULL week of volunteering.
- COUNSELORS may be asked to develop lessons and directly assist teachers, coaches, and program directors with student instruction, and will be responsible for creating and executing morning welcome activities daily during their week of service.
- CITs will be required to purchase a CIT uniform shirt (approximately $30) to wear EVERYDAY they volunteer. The shirt is the same as last summer, so you can use last year's shirt if it is still in good condition. Once accepted, CIT will receive information about ordering shirt.
- COUNSELORS will earn the full number of hours required for their full year of apostolic works with verification of one full week of service, the day of service participation, appropriate discernment, submitted and approved action plans, and submitted and approved reflections.
- COUNSELORS can serve at either campus – West Hills or Chatsworth.
