Chaminade College Preparatory Middle School Entrance Exam Strategies Class
This one day optional class is designed to introduce new students to standardized testing and test taking strategies. Students learn how to prepare for examinations both emotionally and physically, and will practice taking timed tests. Students become familiar with concepts and terminology that are found in standardized tests and learn the importance of interpreting and following directions. A review of verbal and mathematical skills as well as exercises that will improve concentration will be incorporated.

Summer 2017 Programs for Middle School Students
Middle School Summer School Classes for Entering Students
Entering 6th Grade Reading Comprehension and Language Skills (Entering 6th grade)
This course will help incoming 6th graders with the reading skills necessary for success at Chaminade. Particular attention will be paid to comprehension. Students will use the assigned summer reading novel as a resource. Homework will be assigned and grades will be provided to administration for review.
Session 2: Meets Daily, M - F 8:00 – 11:00 a.m.
Entering 6th Grade Math (Entering 6th grade)
Incoming students will benefit from this course emphasizing math skills needed for 6th grade. This course will include the review and practice of all four basic operations with whole numbers, decimals and fractions. Homework will be assigned and grades will be provided to administration for review.

Introduction to Chaminade (NEW Students Entering 6th - 8th grade)
This class is offered as a stand-alone workshop, or as part of our Eagles Take Flight program (see below). Students will meet other new students, learn about the campus, and discover the keys to success in middle school. This course is ideal for incoming students. Times: 10:10 – 11:00 a.m. or 12:00 – 12:50 p.m. Session 2 only. Fee: $155
Eagles Take Flight (Entering 6th grade)
This 13-day workshop will immerse new students in a daily three-hour experience especially designed to prepare them for starting the new school year off right at Chaminade’s Chatsworth campus. Each student will attend three classes daily to expose them to the skills and knowledge expected of entering Chaminade students. One hour of study skills will be complimented by an hour long “Introduction to Chaminade” class, plus an hour of computer keyboarding and applications to prepare for our 1-1 Tablet PC Program. Dates: Session 2. Meets Daily M-F, 8:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. OR 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Fee: $450
Mock Trial Camp (Weeks 3-5 AM) (Entering 6th – 8th grade)
Come learn about the criminal justice system from the coaches of the four-time Los Angeles County Champion Chaminade Mock Trial Team. Students will learn the skills of trial advocacy including rules of evidence, how to examine witnesses, give opening statements, and make closing arguments. On the last day of camp, students will have the opportunity to present a criminal trial for parents and family. Open to all 6th, 7th, & 8th graders. WEST HILLS CAMPUS
2016 Summer Musical Theater Intensive
(For Chaminade students and guests entering 7th – 12th grade)
Join us this summer for a three- week intensive program for grades 7-12. Students will learn how to tell a story and effectively communicate with an audience through scene study, monologue work, song interpretation and musical theatre dance. All their hard work will culminate in a Performance Showcase for family and friends on the main stage of the Tutor Family Center for the Performing Arts. Guided by Broadway professionals, students will sharpen their skills and have fun in a supportive, non-competitive environment. Students are expected to arrive on the first day of the workshop with a song and memorized monologue. The workshop is being led by Chaminade College Preparatory High School Drama Director, Yvette Lawrence Bishop.

Introduction to Musical Theater Workshop
(For students entering 2nd – 6th grade)
This one-week course is designed to give students the opportunity to develop their skills and techniques in the following areas: music, movement, and acting. Students will work on scenes and songs. This course will use Musical Theater repertoire appropriate for the age, skill, talent, and ability of the students. Students will develop basic skills and knowledge in the rehearsal process and promote confidence in their performance abilities. Students will have an opportunity to show off their talents to friends and family at the end of the workshop on the main stage of the Tutor Family Center for the Performing Arts.

Summer Dance Intensive
(Entering 6th –12th grade)
Taught by Chaminade’s Varsity Dance Coach, this dance intensive will allow participants to receive training in all
areas of dance including, jazz, ballet, hip-hop as well as intense technique
training in the form of leaps and turns. Dancers will also be taught a series
of dances with new, cutting edge choreography. All of these new skills will
come together in the form of a show which will be presented on the last day of
the intensive all presented in the new Theater in the Tutor Family Center for
the Performing arts.

Introduction to Aerial Dance Technique (Weeks 1 & 2 PM)
(Entering 6th –12th grade)
This course for young dancers is designed to give students the foundational skills to set them
on a journey toward becoming an aerialist. The focus of the class will include
learning aerial safety and etiquette, stretching and conditioning techniques,
standard climbs and footlocks, and appreciation of the art form. Students will
have an opportunity to work with silks, hammock, and lyra in this fun and
