Financial Aid Policy
Chaminade College Preparatory strives to provide an environment rich in diversity as an important aspect of educating the whole child in the Marianist tradition.  In light of this, the Board of Directors has determined that financial aid is an important tool to developing and maintaining a diverse student population.

Financial aid is awarded for two primary purposes:

·     To permit the development of a richly diverse student population by making a Chaminade education accessible to students from varying economic backgrounds, and

·     To allow for the continued enrollment of students whose families experience economic reversals arising from events such as a death in the family, sudden medical issues or unemployment.

Financial aid may be awarded annually to assist with the payment of tuition, fees and books.  Normally, aid will not be awarded for 100% of tuition as each family is expected to make an appropriate contribution based upon its ability.  As long as a family continues to demonstrate a need and their student maintains an acceptable grade point average (normally 2.0), the school will continue to attempt to meet the need during their student’s time with Chaminade College Preparatory.

Financial aid is awarded based upon an evaluation of each individual situation.  Chaminade College Preparatory recognizes that each family’s situation is unique and must be subject to both objective and subjective analyses in reaching a decision as to any amount awarded.  Awards of aid will be based primarily upon a family’s financial situation.  Other factors may include years associated with Chaminade, parental and student involvement in school activities, academic performance, student character and consideration of the greater Catholic community.  Financial aid shall be awarded without regard to race, color, national and ethnic origin, or sex.

A committee appointed by the President will employ a system to award aid that is designed to maintain confidentiality of applicant information.  An appeals process will be in place should a family wish to have their award decision re-evaluated.

Conflict of Interest – Board of Directors
A Director of Chaminade College Preparatory shall not hold a position as an officer or member of an executive committee in any Chaminade College Preparatory parent support group. Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy
Chaminade College Preparatory will institute a Drug and Alcohol Testing program for students beginning with the 2006-07 school year. The program will be mandatory and primarily random. The intent of the program is to help students stay drug and alcohol free and students who test positive will be referred to appropriate programs and services. The goals of the Drug and Alcohol Testing program will be to deter drug use/abuse by students, to motivate students to resist negative peer pressure and to protect an enriched student learning environment consistent with a college preparatory school. Exclusion of a student from Chaminade College Preparatory as a result of drug testing policy will be considered only when reasonable efforts to improve behavior are unsuccessful. The program will be implemented for all students in grades 9-12.

Students in the eighth grade may be included in this program in future years if their participation is deemed beneficial by the Chaminade administration.

Prior to implementation of the program, the school administration will prepare parents and students by providing sufficient details and information as well as the basis and reasons for the program. The Drug and Alcohol Testing program will be stated in its entirety in the Parent/Student handbook and will be incorporated by reference in the enrollment agreement.

This policy will be implemented in a manner that reflects our Marianist philosophy by respecting the privacy and dignity of students.

Uniform/Dress Code Policy
Beginning no later than the 2005-06 school year, students attending classes at both campuses of Chaminade College Preparatory will be required to dress in an approved uniform. Parents and students at the High School campus, which does not currently require uniforms, will be notified by the administration of this policy change and its underlying rationale prior to implementation. In the following semester, the school administration will establish a process for parent input into the development and implementation of the uniform, which, when completed, will result in the announcement of the new uniform requirements before the end of that semester.

Leading implementation, the administration will emphasize dress that elevates the self esteem of all students and is sensitive to gender equity.

One School Policy
The administration, faculty and staff of Chaminade will implement further steps to ensure that “One School” becomes a reality by the start of school year 2004-2005. The administration will provide leadership to the entire school community to create this reality. It is therefore the goal to see that both campuses engage in a process that will open up additional avenues of cooperation, collaboration and collegiality. This will support our students’ total experience throughout their years at Chaminade.

Normal benchmarks are:

1.     The campaign goal has been reached through pledges and gifts.

2.     A significant portion of the campaign goal has been received in the form of cash, or cash equivalent gifts (i.e. stock), which are available for use.
