Last modified: June 09, 2006The availability of Internet and intranet access at Chaminade provides an opportunity for students and staff to contribute to the school's presence on the World Wide Web. Chaminade's Internet Web site provides information to the world about our school curriculum, instruction, school-authorized activities, and other information relating to our school's mission. Chaminade's intranets are available internally to the entire organization and provide information to our employees and students. Internet and intranet access for the creation of Web pages is provided by Chaminade's Management of Information Systems department. Creators of Web pages need to familiarize themselves with and adhere to the following policies and responsibilities. Failure to follow these policies or responsibilities may result in the loss of authoring privileges or other disciplinary measures.
Content Standards
Administrators, with input from the Web Master and teachers, are responsible for all Web page approval prior to publication on the web.
Subject Matter
All subject matter on Web pages should relate to curriculum, instruction, school-authorized activities, general information that is appropriate and of interest to others, or it should relate to the general community. Therefore, neither staff nor students may publish personal home pages as part of Chaminade's Web Sites, or home pages for other individuals or organizations not directly affiliated with the school. Staff or student work may be published only as it relates to a class project, course, or other school-related activity.Quality
All Web page work must be free of spelling and grammatical errors. Documents may not contain objectionable material or link to objectionable material. Objectionable material is defined as material that does not meet the standards for instructional resources specified in Chaminade's Appropriate Use Policy. The authoring or supervising teacher is responsible for appropriate content. Regarding the question of quality or propriety of Web page material, appearance, or content, the judgment of the administration, or Web Master will prevail.Ownership and Retention
All Web pages on Chaminade's server(s) are property of the school. Web pages may be deleted when a student graduates or moves unless prior arrangements have been made with the teacher and/or Web Master. Chaminade is not responsible for teacher or student web content backup.Student Safeguards
- Web page documents may include complete student names, except when accompanied by student pictures. When the student's picture is present, only the first name followed by the first initial of the student's last name will be published.
- Documents may not include a student's phone number, address, last names of other family members, or last names of friends.
- Published email addresses are restricted to staff members or to a general group email address where arriving email is forwarded to a staff member.
- Decisions on publishing student pictures (video or still) and audio clips are based on the supervising teacher's judgment. The teacher must first check with the school's administration and the student's parents/guardians, to determine if they have objected to such publication.
- Web page documents may not include any information that indicates the physical location of a student at a given time, other than attendance at a particular school, or participation in activities.
School Policies
All documents on Chaminade's server(s) must conform to all school policies and regulations as well as the Appropriate Use Policy. Persons developing or maintaining Web documents are responsible for complying with these and other policies. Some of the relevant issues and related policies include the following:
- Any information published on the Internet by Chaminade employees and intended for Chaminade students, parents, alumni, employees or other school constituencies, is required to reside on Chaminade’s servers.

- Any deliberate tampering with or misuse of Chaminade's Internet/intranet network services or equipment will be considered vandalism and will be handled in accordance with the school's policies.
Technical Standards
Consistency
Each Web page added to the school's Web site(s) must contain certain elements that will provide general consistency for Chaminade's Web pages.
- At the bottom of the Web page, there must be an indication of the date of the last update to that page and the name or initials of the person(s) responsible for the page or update. If the page contains time sensitive material, then an expiration date needs to be indicated. It shall be that person's responsibility to keep the Web page current.
- At the bottom of the Web page, there must be a link that returns the user to the appropriate point(s) in the school's Web pages. A template will be provided for all web authors.
- Additional consistency standards will be developed and published by the Management of Information Systems as the need arises.
- All Web pages must be reviewed by the supervising faculty member prior to submission for approval and placement on Chaminade's server(s).
- No computers other than the M.I.S. assigned Web servers shall be configured as Internet/intranet Web/FTP servers and only these computer will host Chaminade web content.
- Users must exhibit care when creating Web pages with extensive tiled backgrounds or large graphics. Such files require extensive download time, are frustrating for modem users, and slow down the file servers.
- The authorized teacher who is publishing the final Web page(s) for himself or herself, or for a student, will edit and test the page(s) for accuracy of links, and check for conformance with standards outlined in this policy.
- Web pages may not contain links to other Web pages not yet completed. If additional pages are anticipated, but not yet developed, the text that will provide such a link should be included. However, the actual link to said page(s) may not be made until the final page is actually in place on the school's server(s).
- All Web pages must be given titles that clearly identify them.
- Any graphics, sounds, or video used on Web pages must conform to standard web formats.
- Web pages may not contain any student email address links, any survey-response links, or any other type of direct-response links.
- Final decisions regarding access to active Web pages for editing content or organization will rest with the school's administration.
- All Web pages shall be linked to other school pages in relation to their current location on the server(s).
Other
- In some cases material on Web pages might reflect an individual's thoughts, interests, and activities. Such material may not represent nor be endorsed by Chaminade. Concern about the content of any page(s) created by students or staff should be directed to the administration of the school and the Web Master.
- Given the rapid change in technology, some of the technical standards outlined in this policy may require change throughout the year. Such changes will be made by the Management of Information Systems department. This Web Page Policy will be updated on an annual basis, or more frequently if required.
