The following guidelines will greatly simplify the process of web page publication on Chaminade’s web servers.

All your web content needs to be submitted in one main folder. You may name this folder with any appropriate name of your choice preferably your user login name.

This folder needs to contain a page called START.HTM.

The START.HTM page should be the "portal" page that links to your web pages and to the rest of Chaminade’s web site.

Inside the main folder you can organize your pages anyway you like, using subfolders.

All your global graphics, pictures, images, etc. need to be inside a subfolder called GRAPHICS for better organization.

Crop all your graphics and pictures to a reasonable size in order to reduce the download time.

If you need to display many related pictures, it is better to create a page with thumbnails or links to every picture and from there a visitor will be able to view one picture at a time.

On every page make sure to provide appropriate navigation buttons.

Do not forget to put at the bottom of every web page the name of the author as well as the date of the last update.

Example

The English department needs to submit a collection of web pages. Below are the steps necessary for easy submission:

  1. Create a folder and name it ENGLISH.
  2. Inside the ENGLISH main folder create another subfolder and name it GRAPHICS. Copy inside the GRAPHICS subfolder all your global graphics, pictures, images, etc.
  3. Create all your pages inside the ENGLISH main folder.
  4. You may organize your pages further into subfolders such as LESSONS, NEWS, TEST, etc. within the ENGLISH main folder.
  5. Make sure that all your pages reference graphics from the GRAPHICS folder.
  6. Inside the ENGLISH main folder create the START.HTM web page that links to the rest of your pages within the ENGLISH folder.
  7. Submit your pages for publication either by coping them to the designated area on the appropriate server, or via diskette, email attachment or FTP.

Important Note: Make sure that you use relative and not absolute links to connect your web pages.
For example lets assume that  you want to create a link from a page inside the Tests folder called test3.htm back to your start.htm page. In this case you should use the  ../start.htm path in your link. You should never use drive letters in your links (absolute paths).

All that is left to be done by the web master is to put appropriate links on your START.HTM page back to Chaminade’s home page as well as any other appropriate links to pages outside your folders.
