Summary of FTP Directions

In order to use the File Transfer Protocol (FTP) to transfer files to the Chaminade FTP server follow the directions below:

Use a Windows 9x or Windows NT computer.

1. Go to a DOS prompt.

2. At the prompt enter the command: ftp www.chaminade.org.

The FTP server will ask you for your user name.

3. Enter the word anonymous.

The FTP server will ask you for your password.

4. Just press the enter key.

You will see the welcoming message plus a brief description of some FTP commands.

At the end you will see the ftp> (ftp prompt).

5. At the ftp> enter the dir (directory) command.

You will see two directories listed; the DOWNLOAD and the UPLOAD.

6. At the ftp> enter the cd upload (change directory) command.

7. At the ftp> enter the cd whdrama command.

Now you are inside the desired directory, ready to upload your files.

8. At the ftp> enter the mkdir dirname in order to create a sub-directory of your choice.

9. At the ftp> enter cd dirname in order to change to the directory you just created.

10. At the ftp> enter the mput path\yourfiles\*.* to transfer the files to the FTP server.

Repeat from step 8 in order to create more directories.

At the end, enter the word quit to end your FTP session.

There are also several FTP freeware utilities on the Internet that significantly simplify the above process.
