Vocations

The harvest is abundant, but the laborers are few

In his book, The Meaning of Vocation, Pope John Paul II addresses the young people in this manner concerning vocations:

What is God calling you to do?  I turn especially to you, boys and girls, young and not so young, who find yourselves at the decisive moment of choice.  I would like to meet you one by one, call you by your name, talk to you heart to heart  of things extremely important not only for yourself, but for the whole of humanity.  I would like to ask each one of you: What will you do with your life?  What are your plans?  Have you ever thought of committing your existence totally to Christ?  Do you think that there can be anything greater than to bring Jesus to people and people to Jesus?

Pope John Paul II challenges the young people to discern the “call of Jesus Christ.”  It involves a deeper and intimate relationship with Jesus through the action of the Holy Spirit.  He continues on to say that “the Lord has given you a heart open to great horizons; do not be afraid to commit your life completely to the service of Christ and his Gospel!  Listen to him as he says again today: The harvest is abundant, but the laborers are few.

Have you felt Christ calling you to a deeper relationship with him?  Perhaps, it is one of service to his people.  If you would like to explore this calling, meet with Bro. Adam Becerra, fsp, or Fr. Jim Mueller, S.M.  Jesus may be calling to his Priesthood or Religious life.  All are invited to explore this special vocation for the building of the kingdom of God while here on earth!

Prayer for Priestly Vocations

Father, in every generation you provide
ministers of Christ and the Church.
We come before you now, asking that you
call forth more men to serve our Archdiocese
in the ministerial priesthood.

Give us priests who will lead and guide
your holy people gathered by Word and Sacrament.

Bless us with priestly vocations so that we can continue
to be a truly Eucharistic Church,
strengthened in our discipleship of Jesus Christ,
your Only Son.

Raise up, we pray, men who are generous in their service,
willing to offer their lives and all their gifts
for your greater glory and for the good of your people.

We make our prayer in the presence and power
of the Holy Spirit, through Christ, Our Lord.
Amen.
