Chaminade College
Preparatory Class Retreats
Rooted in the
Catholic and Marianist Traditions, the Retreat Programs provide
an excellent opportunity for students to pull back from their
routine life patterns and connect with God on a deeper level.
Each grade level focuses on a different theme each year and is
held during school hours.
All students are required to attend
as on-going reflection and follow-up assignments will be
completed during Religion classes.
6th
grade Retreat: October 15-17, 2008 (Chaminade)
The theme of the sixth grade retreat is
I am IMAGO
DEI…I am PURE GIFT.
The purpose of this retreat is to prayerfully reflect on the
students’ relationship with God. Most importantly, its emphasis
is to understand that they have been created in the image of God
(imago dei) and have been given certain gifts which are
to be shared with the rest of the world. Activities will
include large group sessions, small group discussions,
dramatization, prayer, praise and worship, reflection and
writing, and a closing Liturgy.
7th
Grade Retreat: February 18-20, 2009 (Chaminade)
The seventh grade retreat focuses on the person of Jesus
Christ in the theme of Who do You Say that I am?
The basis of this retreat comes from the Gospel of Mark
8:27-30, Peter’s Confession about Jesus. Students are
called to become caring people of God in order to form a closer
relationship within their class, and in their own way, become
role models for the next year’s student body. This retreat will
emphasize on the question that Jesus asks his disciples in
Mark’s gospel, “Who do you say that I am?” At the same time, it
enables the students to understand their own human qualities.
Activities will include large group sessions, small group
discussions, dramatization, prayer, praise and worship,
reflection and writing, and a closing Liturgy.
8th
Grade Retreat: May 15, 2009 (Poverello of Assisi
Retreat House, San Fernando)
The theme of the eighth grade retreat is Called to
Holiness. Christ the divine teacher preached holiness
of life to each and every one of his disciples no matter what
their condition of life. They are told to live “as is fitting
among saints and as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, to show
compassion, kindness, lowliness, meekness, and patience.” This
retreat will emphasize on the calling of one’s own vocation.
Students will reflect on their lives to begin to discover their
personal calling.
