The counseling department at Chaminade College Preparatory Middle School, located in the 200 and 300 buildings, offers ongoing opportunities for parent education, and parent, student, teacher support. This support is included in a variety of programs. These programs include: STEP (Systematic Training for Effective Parenting), dealing with common issues of middle school students There is also a monthly support group for parents with students who have special needs. There is also the opportunity for parents to individually consult with a counselor regarding their child. The counseling department provides individual and group support for the students in the areas of conflict resolution, study skills, interpersonal relationships, anger management, adjustment to middle school, cliques, self-esteem, acting out behavior, and stress management. In addition to these students, the counselors track the individual academic progress of each student and make any necessary interventions. The counseling departments acts as a liaison between teachers and families by offering ideas and solutions to meet the individual needs of each child in their educational and developmental process. Meet the Counselors The following is a chart to help parents know which counselor their child has and where to find her. Your child’s counselor is determined by X block teacher if he or she is in the 6th grade.  If your child is in the 7th or 8th grade his or her counselor is determined by the first letter of the last name.
