Separate grade level counselors offer on-campus counseling for students who might be experiencing difficulties with academics or behavior, social problems, family problems, including special needs, learning disabilities, and adjustment to school in general. See Counseling Student Referrals for information on how students are referred to the counseling programs.

The department is not disciplinary in nature.

The counselors work to support students.

Counseling is intended to offer safety and support for those students who find themselves faced with difficulties, minor or major, which keep them from succeeding as they would like.

Parent Services
Chaminade’s Counseling Department also offers a variety of forums to address parent interests:

Special Need Services

Chaminade is committed to accommodating students with special needs in accordance with our Special Needs Policy. To implement this policy the counseling department offers:

Special Needs Support Group for parents once a month.  See Counseling News.

A comprehensive survey of special needs is completed as a part of the registration each Spring.

Faculty inservice training has included the videos: Accommodating the AD/HD Student in Your Classroom, Attention, Memory and Language: The Keys to Learning, and F.A.T. City.

Extended-time testing is available upon written request of the parent accompanied by documentation for this need by an outside professional.

Faculty Liaison

The grade level counselors attend the grade level faculty team meetings once in each six-day cycle. The counselors act as a consultant regarding problem issues that teachers observe in their students. They also act as a liaison among the parent, student, and teacher when it is helpful for the solution of a given problem. The counselors are also available to the individual teachers as consultants regarding individual students about whom they may be concerned. The counselor provides helpful techniques for teachers of students with special needs and offers inservices as appropriate.
