The Valley A Blue and Orange Flag Football teams hosted Sierra Canyon on Monday, Sept. 29. Valley A Orange played first in what appeared to be a ”David vs Goliath” battle. The Trailblazers featured 4 players over 6 feet tall while the Eagles tallest player was only 5’9. The mismatch in height and size did not detour our scrappy defense from making sacks and great plays. Offensively, the Eagles employed quick plays and some trickeration. Brandon Bruehl lobbed a couple of touchdown passes on a wide-receiver handoff from Christian Vitale. Sierra Canyon rallied late in the game to bring the score within one point but opted to go for the win on a two point conversion. The Eagles shut down the conversion at the 1 foot line. Final score Chaminade 21, Sierra Canyon 20.
Valley A Blue played in the 2nd game. Justin Eisen put the Eagles on top early in the game with a touchdown reception from quarterback, Kian Samadian. Later, Samadian, connected with Cameron Nieman and then called his own number , rushing for a touchdown. Final score was Eagles 20, Trailblazers 0. Coach Pollock and Coach Contreras were happy with the play of their team which had just come off a tough weekend in the Notre Dame Flag Football Tournament. Congratulations to Blue and Orange teams on a great start to the season.

Chaminade’s newest team recorded its first victory with a 36-0 score over the host, Brentwood 7 football team. Chaminade, dawning orange jerseys and blue helmets and pants, pounded the Brentwood team scoring 30 points in the first half. The “Mercy Rule” was invoked but did not stop the Chaminade defense from intercepting a pass and returning it for a touchdown. During the second half, our Eagles were given only 4 plays on offense but managed to rack up over 50 yards on each possession.
Kevin Lewallyn and Harry Brockington accounted for the majority of the scoring, both rushing for big yardage. Kevin Roche booted a number of extra points through the uprights, adding to the score. The Eagle defense denied Brentwood any chance to score and sacked the quarterback multiple times.
Chaminade has a bye this next week and will travel to Campbell Hall on October 11th to take on the Patriots of Viewpoint, game time 9:00am.

With a little luck, some perseverance, and a great deal of talent the Chaminade Eagles pulled off an amazing trifecta, winning titles in three Delphic League Spring Sports: baseball, field hockey, and softball. Both baseball and softball had similar experiences each playing at and against Oaks Christian as #2 seeds. Baseball was technically the first to claim first place as pitchers Ryan Brockett, Frank Vidak, and Michael Dingilian held the Lion bats at bay in a 7-3 victory. Nick Dertouzos, Dingilian, and Cody DeSpain all came up with clutch hits in the final inning to give Chaminade a four run cushion. Other valuable members of Jerry Dorfman's and Sam Dosssick's squad were Andrew Azzarello, Kevin Bailey, Dalton Brown, Ben Bryan, Raymond Kim, Tristan Korras, Josh Kouchi, Andrew Rosenberger, Nico Rusconi, Kai Storm, Brando Tessar, and Blake Torres. Minutes after the boys celebrated their victory, the girls, who got a stellar pitching performance from Lindsey Webster, picked up their hardware by virtue of a 9-5 extra inning victory. The win was especially gratifying because Oaks Christian had beaten the Eagles twice in the regular season. Thanks to some timely hitting by Webster, Kathleen Auwarter, and Jessica Israel plus some great defense from catcher Alex Bershon and shortstop Jennifer Jugovic, Chaminade never trailed. Coach Laura Garcia also received key contributions during the championship season from Melanie Allegretti, Brianna Camitses, Beckie Ethington, Amber Korras, and Samantha Marker. Less than 24 hours after the baseball and softball teams scored their triumphs, the Blue Field Hockey team became the first in their sport to garner a championship trophy with a dramatic 2-1 overtime victory over Harvard-Westlake 8. Ana Alvarado scored the decisive goal on a penalty stroke and goalie Christine Odabashian slapped down the Wolverine's five penalty attempts as the Eagles completed an unbeaten season. Breann Meck smacked in the first goal and along with fellow forwards Jenna Greer and Morgan Ritter kept the Wolverines on their heels. The defense was led by Madeleine Forbes, Meghan Connor and Megan Flynn who helped Odabashian keep Harvard scoreless except for a penalty shot with eight minutes to go. The first field hockey title was definitely a team effort with Coaches Amanda Ebel and Mike Valentine also getting strong play from Rebecca Barone, Dani Canepa, Lauren Cebulak, Ari Danova, Catherine Frederick, Michelle Jackson, Jessica Laufer, Desi Lopez, and Mandi Williams.

After a two year hiatus the Chaminade Eagles returned to the top of the Junior High Delphic League winning the championship game 14-8 over St. Maathews. The victory capped a perfect league season for Coach Jim Ramirez and his squad. In the finale quarterback Jake Basmagian hit Ryan Brockett with a fourth quarter touchdown pass for the game decider. Anthony Daniels came up with an interception in the final two minutes to thwart the Falcons final drive. All season long the defense was the key to the Eagles success. Linemen Tyler DiVincenzo, Kyle Fiouzi, Dalton Brown, Nik Manders,Conor Beesmeyer, and Wayne Webster kept constant pressure on the quarterback. The defensive backs led by Andrew Azzarrello, Frank Vidak, Kevin Bsiley, and Andrew Rosenberger had sevferal interceptions. On offense solid blocking by Daniel Galanti, Josh Kouchi, and Griffin Ruderman paved the way for Austin Kang and Daniels. Friday Night Lights became a reality to Chaminade Middle School footballers when Chaminade High School hosted a tripleheader of flag football competition November 12th. Playing on the newly christened and newly resurfaced Vukelich Field, the Delphic, Valley A, and Valley B football teams reveled in the incredible experience in playing in one of the best football settings in Southern California. "It was so cool!" exclaimed sixth grader Steven Henkin of the Valley "B" Orange team.
The event began with the battle of the "B"s--Chaminade Blue vs. Chaminade Orange. Although the Orange came in with the better record, the game was a fight to the finish with the Orange squeaking out a hard earned 12-8 victory. For the victors Michael Dingilian and Ryan Sorenson ran in for two long scores and Matt LoPresti played heads up defense. The Blue squad rallied behind the play of Spencer Miller who caught a touchdown from Dalton Brown and made an interception in the end zone. Other stellar Blue performances by Chad Tobin and Connor Burton.
Following the B game the Valley A team put their two game winning streak on the line versus St. Bernardines. The Eagles jumped off to a quick start, scoring on their first possesion and never looked back prevailing 20-6. Austin Kang was the offensive hero slicing through the Saber defense for three touchdown runs. Quarterback Jake Basmagian was also having a brilliant night until a third quarter mishap sent him to the hospital with a broken shoulder. On defense Nico Rusconi and Brandon Goldberg held the visitors scoreless unitl late in the fourth quarter.
The final game was an exciting back and fourth affair between Chaminade's Delphic team and the highly touted Bears of St. Paschal Baylon in Thousand Oaks. Denis Shepherd got the Eagles off to a blistering start with a receiving touchdown and a 30 yard run on a reverse. But the Bears stormed back overtaking the Eagles 16-14 early in the second half. The Bears added a fourth quarter score and an all-important 1 point converion that turned out to be the difference in the game when Chaminade's Mike Fritschner scampered in for a touchdown with less than two minutes to play. The final score was St. paschals 23 Chaminade 22, but it was a memorable night for all the participants.
Special thank to the Chaminade cheerleaders who provided spirit and entertainment. Also a big thank you to Joe Shapiro and Bryan Cantwell the Athletic Directors from the high school who made the facility available to the middle school. Finally, a huge thanks to the Chaminade Athletic Booster Board members who gave of their time and talent to make this event happen. Scott Alderton coordinated the entire event, Bob Lewis ran the scoreboard, and John Trent "The Voice of the Eagles" provided play by play. Even Mundy's concession stand was open due to the efforts of Colleen Owings and Sandy Alderton.
All in all the second annual "Football Spirit Night" was a smashing hit.

After a lengthy hiatus Chaminade is saddling up again and joining the prestigious Interscholastic Equestrian League. It has been several years since Chaminade has fielded an equestrian team at the high school level and it is the first time ever that middle schoolers have been able to compete. Currently 11 middle schoolers and 6 high schoolers are signed up to compete in Dressage, Hunter, Hunt Seat Equitation, and Jumpers at a variety of levels. The first show was held on Sunday, October 24 and Chaminade made a sparkling debut thanks to middle school riders Allison Bronson, Kendra Reed-Young, and Megan Young who combined to earn 54 points and place Chaminade 3rd out of 29 teams in the the Novice Division. Allison and her horse Lacey took home a first place ribbon in dressage. The next riding competition will be held on December 4th at the Hansen Dam Equestrian Center located in Lake View Terrace. Special thanks go out to Team Representative Carolyn Bronson and her assistant Pat LoPresti who have helped get this wonderful program off the ground.
