Administrative News - Principal's Message

Message from the Principal

Dear Parents,

As this school year comes to an end and before we all prepare to go off to various places for some much need rest and relaxation, I thought I would take this opportunity to bring you up to speed on some of the changes in the Administrative personnel at the Middle School for the coming year.

Academic Assistant Principal

The search for a replacement for Mrs. Linda Barkan, led us to interview several qualified and excellent candidates and after much prayer and discernment we promoted one of our own teachers who graciously accepted the position.  It is my pleasure to announce that Mrs. Sharon Krahl will assume the duties of the Academic Assistant Principal effective July 1st of this year.  Mrs. Krahl, as many of you know, has been at Chaminade for eight years and during that time she has held many leadership positions.  She has been both a team leader and a department chair for the Social Studies Department, has taught Religion, Social Studies and Journalism at Chaminade, and has been responsible for organizing the ever popular International Fair that the sixth graders enjoy each year.

A native of Hillsboro, Illinois Sharon came to Chaminade via teaching experiences in Catholic school first in a small river town along the Mississippi River in Chester, Illinois and subsequently in Dearborn, Michigan before her husband accepted a job in Los Angeles.  She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Southern Illinois University with a specialization in Language Arts and Social Studies, and has held teaching credentials in Illinois, Michigan, and California.  She is putting the finishing touches on her Masters in education with a specialty in Technology this year.  Mrs. Krahl lives with her family in Santa Clarita and has two children, Erika and Brett.  Her husband, Scott, is an Assistant Professor in the UCLA Division of Neurosurgery.  She is delighted to take this responsibility for the coming year and is eager to work with such a talented group of people.

Campus Ministry

Ms. Theresa Valenzuela, who came to the Middle School this year, has been appointed Principal of St. Linus in Norwalk.  She has done many wonderful things in her short time here and we wish her every success in her new position.  We are pleased to announce that Mr. Adam Becerra will take over the Campus Ministry position.  Mr. Becerra has an extensive background working with youth in a variety of church ministries.  He has a M.A. in theology.  You may have seen him recently on campus for the end of the year activities to get a feel for his job and to meet our students and the faculty and get acquainted with Chaminade.  We are confident that he will carry on the great traditions of Community Service and excellent liturgies here at the Middle School.

As this year comes to an end we wish everyone a wonderful summer and pray that it is a time of relaxation and rejuvenation for all members of the Chaminade family.  May God continue to bless us and shower his love on each of us.

Sincerely,

Christine Hunter

Principal
