Petey by Ben Mikaelsen

Written by Rachel La

Petey is a heart warming book about one man and his friends.  Petey is born with cerebral palsy, but the doctors said he was an idiot.  Petey’s family gives him to a mental institute and he was put into the infant’s ward.  At the infant’s ward Petey meets Esteban who believes Petey is not an idiot.  Later, Petey is moved to men’s ward.  Petey is befriended by a couple of mice and a boy named Calvin.  Calving and Petey becomes best friends and go through many more friends together.  Petey falls in love with a girl named Cassie.  They both love each other but Cassie has to go back to her husband.  Petey becomes friends with many people but soon they all have to leave him.  Petey gets moved to a nursing home in Bozeman.  A boy named Trevor becomes Petey’s best friend.  Trevor is determined to help Petey and get others to see Petey differently.  Will Petey be seen differently?  Will Trevor get to help Petey as much as he wants?

Petey is a fantastic book.  There are many great people in this book.  I would recommend this book to anybody.  Petey is a great role model to others because he kept trying to get people to understand him and did not give up.  Once I started this book I could not stop reading.  I hope many more people can enjoy this book like I did.
