Middle School Library - Book Reviews

This story is the first in the “Young Wizardry” series. The main characters are Nita Callahan and Kit Rodriguez. The story’s heroine, Nita Callahan was just a regular 13 year old girl who was bullied by the evil Joanne. One day she hides in a library and while the librarian is taking care of the bullies, she passes through the “So You Want to be…” books in the children’s area. One book sticks out to her: “So You Want to be a Wizard”. The moment Nita has this book in her hands, her life is forever changed. She’s thrust into a sequence of events all leading up to the Climax where she must face death herself. All she has is a glowing star and her newfound 12 year old friend Kit. Will she be able to overcome her world’s worst fear? Or will their efforts be for naught?

This story has many similes, metaphors, vivid imagery, and hilarious comic relief. I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in fantasy and/or teen novels.
