Inside The Walls of Troy by Clemence McLaren

Written by
Victoria Ralis
Inside The Walls of Troy was an amazing book. This book had two points of view: Helen’s and Cassandra’s. Helen was known all over the world as the most beautiful woman on earth, and because of her beauty, they say a thousand ships were launched, fifty thousand men died, and the world’s greatest city fell to dust. People believed that the great almighty Zeus himself was Helen’s father. Besides all of Helen’s beauty she was a normal girl who loved horses, played the flute, and bit her nails. Helen was the princess of Sparta. Her best friend and companion at Sparta was Penelope, her cousin. Helen’s childhood ended at the age of twelve when she and Hessia, her nurse got kidnapped by Theseus. Theseus brought Helen and Hessia to Athens. Theseus was very kind to them; he gave advice to Helen how to make herself even prettier, and act lady-like. He gave Helen a new beautiful wardrobe, and showed her the mirror, which she really wanted to see. Helen and Hessia stayed there for several months, till Helen’s older, twin brothers came to take them back to Sparta. When they reached Sparta Helen’s father was choosing a husband for her. After several months he choose Menelaus to be Helen’s husband. Menelaus was Agamemnon’s little brother. They lived together in Sparta as king and queen, and they had a daughter named Hermione. Then one day Paris of Troy comes to visit them. While Menelaus is away, Helen and Paris fell in love and they run away together to Troy. Meanwhile, behind the walls of Troy Cassandra can foresee the future. She saw that Helen was coming with Paris, and that Helen’s coming would bring disaster, and she did. With Cassandra knowing this, she still could not stop herself from becoming friends with Helen, and everyone else became friends with Helen, too. Soon a war was started between Troy and the Greeks over Helen. Many people died, especially when the Trojan Horse came into the Trojan cities.
Will Helen and Cassandra survive this battle? What will happen to them if they do?
Inside The Walls of Troy was a very interesting book. This book kept me reading and reading. I highly recommend this book to anyone, especially historical fiction lovers. Aren’t you at least a little bit interested if Helen and Cassandra survive?
