Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson

By Antoinette Ochoa

Speak, by Laurie Halse Anderson is one of the best books I have read in my life.  Knowing all the suspense leaves questions bussing around my head.  Melinda really had a happy life but it was messed up when "IT" came into her life.  The beginning of the book is like hook, pulling you in so that you can find out more.  At first I did not know who "IT" was, then I found out and it made so much more sense of what happened throughout the book.  At first I thought that she was born to be the way she is, but while reading the book I found more and more out of what happened and why.

This book is incredibly interesting and it makes me want to find out more of what happened after Melinda finally said something.  I can now see when the book is called Speak.  Laurien Anderson did an incredible job of putting down what it would have probably felt like for a real person in that situation.

Another review by Savannah Pearlman

Melinda Sordina broke up an end of the summer party by calling the cops.  She has just entered high school and is all ready and outcast.  None of Melinda’s friends from last year are even talking to her.  She is all alone.  Her grades have dropped and she barely even talks anymore.  She holds in herself a secret.  Something happened on the night of the party.  Something that caused her to be so afraid that she called the police.  But what was it?

I would recommend this book because it was easy to read and it has a lot of suspense.  I like this novel because it shows what it would be like to go through a school year with no friends.  This is a lessen for everyone to just say no to things that you don’t want to do.  Also one of the morals are do your best  to help others.  No matter how bad of a time you are having in High School if you read this you will be glad you have friends even if you only have one or two.  Speak is  wonderfully written and every teenager should read it.
