Back to the Divide by Elizabeth Kay
Back to the Divide is the much sought-after sequel to The Divide. It takes place in two worlds: one being ours, in England. The other is another dimension, perceptible only through the divide. Felix, a 14 year old boy, accidentally stumbles upon this world when last year he passed out on the divide in Costa Rica, his body equally on both sides for a heartbeat, due to his heart illness. The spell to return was found in the hands of the horrid, evil Snakeweed, who is the enemy of Felix. Snakeweed passes over to our world, and, in trying to get the spell back to leave, marble-izes Felix’s parents. This spell has a chain reaction- everything that touches his parents turns to stone its self and so on. Felix needs to go back over the divide yet again; not only to save his parents, but to save his planet from discovering magic! Getting back, he finds that things are much worse than how he left them, and only getting poorer. The world across the divide needs his help- or else all of his friends will lose their lives and, possibly, the whole world may be destroyed. So his things-to-do list sums up to this: find spell to fix parents, save our world, put things back in pace across divide, save their world… But can he do all of that? How is a 14 year old English boy going to save 2 worlds, when no one can even manage to save one? And what will happen when the real outcome is realized?I liked this book because though it wasn’t realistic, it didn’t really matter. The book was just as good as any other book, maybe even better. It teaches you life lessons, with characters you’ll never be able to forget. The adventure of it all made you want to just keep on reading it, never once stopping to take a breath. If you like adventure, fantasy, and having a good time reading, this book was written JUST for you.
