President Lincoln has just been shot and Washington D. C. is in a state of disaster, confusion, and fear.  Now fourteen year old Emily is not sure what to think as the world she once knew is turned upside down.  After her mother passes away, and her next door neighbors and friends are suspected for being involved in the assassination of President Lincoln, Emily moves in with her Uncle Valentine whom she suspects to be involved with body snatching.  But is he or isn’t he?  Will Emily ever know for sure?  To find out you must read An Acquaintance with Darkness: by Ann Rinaldi.

I would definitely recommend this book because it was impossible to put down.  This story is filled with a lot of action and suspense.  Though it was a little depressing, I really enjoyed it.  This novel also had much incite into the time period of Lincoln’s presidency, it made me really think about history.  I am very glad I read it.  An Acquaintance with Darkness is a beautifully written book and I think every history lover should read it
