Crispin, The Cross of Lead by Avi

Crispin is a never ending action book, that revolves around a boy named Crispin and his adventure to be free.  Crispin was born into a poor peasant family in the fourteenth-century in medieval England.  His mother’s name was Asta and his father’s he never knew.  Crispin never met his father because he died in the Great Mortality or Plague.  Crispin’s mother dies and he is then committed for a crime he did not commit.  Crispin is pronounced a “wolf’s head,” which means anyone can kill him at any time.  To stay alive Crispin must flee from the only home he’s ever known.  The only possession he takes is his mother’s cross of lead.  Crispin is surprised by this new world when one day he becomes curious and encounters a juggler by the name of  Bear.  Crispin is convinced that Bear is a mad man, not to mention he is gigantic.  Bear takes Crispin in as his son and names himself the master of Crispin.  Bear gives Crispin the freedom to do as he wishes and to think for himself if that is what Crispin wants.  While on Crispin’s whole journey he has been pursued by John Aycliffe the steward of Stromford, Crispin’s village, and the kin of Lady Furnival.  Bear has business to take care of in the city of Great Wexly, but is captured by John Aycliffe and his men.  Will Crispin save himself and gain his freedom, or take the risk and try to save Bear?  Will Crispin and Bear come out of their amazing adventure alive?  To find out read the amazing book by Avi, Crispin.

Crispin is an extraordinary book, filled to the brim with adventure.  I could not put this book down because I was so anxious about what would happen next.  I would most definitely recommend this book to anyone, especially historical fiction or action and adventure lovers.  I greatly enjoyed this book, and I really hope you will too.
