Simone Spencer is a regular seventeen year old living in New York City in the early 1900s. Though her family is one of the richest in New York City and her mother, Maman, owns a hat shop which anyone whose anyone shops at.
With World War I just around the corner Simone does not know what to think. Simone does not know what to do to help. She volunteers at the YWCA, then she works at a hospital and helps out a soldier to have the courage to talk to his parents after he ran away to the war, but still she wants to help out more. Soon, her brother, Will, signs up for the war and becomes a doughboy. This inspires Simone to sign up herself. Since her mother is French, she learned to speak it and signs up for a switchboard operator, also known as a hello girl.
On her way to Europe, she meets a new friend named Alice Kealy. While in France, she goes to a dance and finds Will! With Will is one of his friends, Sam Cates, who Simone falls in love with! Will Simone ever see her brother Will? Will Simone ever see Sam, the love of her life again? Will Simone ever make it home? Find out in When Christmas Comes Again.
I enjoyed this book because it had many lessons to learn and it made merealize how easy I have my life. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone who has felt sorrow, pain, achievement, and anticipation in their life to read it.
