Requirements for Entrance to Chaminade

In an effort to assure success at Chaminade, students are carefully selected for admission according to the following criteria:

  1. Satisfactory scores on the Chaminade entrance examination;

  2. Recommendation from the previous elementary school principal and/or teachers;

  3. Satisfactory grades and achievement scores from the previous school;

  4. Successful personal interview;

  5. Acceptance by Chaminade’s Board of Admissions;

  6. Successful completion of remedial classes (if required).

Requirements for Promotion

For matriculation to the next grade level from sixth to twelfth grade, students must be successful in their current grade level each year and meet the following criteria:

  1. Acceptable conduct and citizenship through the previous year;

  2. Satisfactory completion of the previous year’s work and community service hours

  3. Successful completion of remedial classes (if required).


Awards

Semester
In an effort to encourage students to work to their full potential, Chaminade gives awards for academic success. Students are given awards at the end of the first and second semester. They are in three categories:

  • Principal’s List for 4.0 or higher

  • First Honors for 3.5 to 3.99

  • Second Honors for 3.0 to 3.49

All courses taken apply to honors eligibility.
Additional awards in each subject area may be given at the end of the year, and eighth grade special awards are given at graduation. Students on disciplinary probation are not eligible for awards.

The Linda Barkan National Junior Honor Society Scholarship
The NJHS scholarship is given in recognition of high academic standards and involvement in organizations in and outside of Chaminade.

The $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a returning sixth or seventh grade student and is based on both the completion of an application, an essay, and one outside recommendation. The scholarship is applied toward the recipient’s tuition for the next year. The award is presented at the NJHS induction ceremony.


Graduation
Students receiving the following awards have been nominated and selected by the faculty for their exceptional competence in academics, citizenship, school participation, and/or sports. Awards are also given in each subject area to students with the highest grade point average.

The Sister Noreen Arnold Student Council Scholarship
The scholarship given by Student Council is based on student leadership at Chaminade Middle School and is open to eighth graders who will be attending Chaminade High School. Requirements include maintaining a 3.0 grade point average, involvement in extracurricular activities, community service, and a teacher recommendation. The $500 scholarship is applied toward the recipient’s tuition to Chaminade High School. This award is presented in June during the eighth grade graduation ceremony.

The Robert Bankowski Scholarship
This award, established in 1994 by Mr. Dennis Hass, a friend and colleague, who wished to commemorate Mr. Bankowski, a former eighth grade parent who passed away several years ago, is awarded to the eighth grade student, who without seeking recognition or reward, has freely given of his or her time and effort to help enrich the Chaminade Middle School Community.

The Father Edwin Johnson Christian Service Award
This award is given to the student who has rendered outstanding service to Chaminade Middle School and the community. This student has done much more than the required community service hours and is consistently involved in the school and community service programs.

The Principal's Award
This award is given to honor the best all-around student in the graduating class for his/her outstanding performance in academics, citizenship, and extracurricular activities. This student personifies the ideal Chaminade student.

The Joseph A. Rauser Spirit Award
This award is given in honor of Mr. Joseph Rauser. It is awarded to the student who exemplifies outstanding school spirit, sportsmanship, and dedication to Chaminade.

The Father John McEnhill Award
This award is given in honor of Father John E. McEnhill, who was principal of Chaminade High School in the 1980s, and the founder of the Chaminade Middle School campus. This award is given to the student with the best academic record for each school year.
